It’s pretty rare that you get to meet someone that you consider a true style icon, especially a  representative of the premiere clothing brand Brunello Cucinelli, like Mr. Massimo Caronna. Massimo, as he preferred to be addressed, is the president of the Brunello Cucinelli brand for the United States and Canada. Just about two weeks ago, the Neiman Marcus Men’s Shop at the King of Prussia Mall location, just outside of Philadelphia, had a Cucinelli trunk show in which Mr. Caronna was present. Thanks to my relationship with this Neiman Marcus location, I was invited that morning to meet Massimo and view the pieces being shown.

Of course I was completely floored by the idea of meeting Massimo, especially since I would be able to show him my recent Cucinelli feature (It was cool to get his feedback on my styling, which he enjoyed). It was evident from having some time to bounce ideas off Massimo, that his style is truly innate. When talking about the Cucinelli brand, Massimo expressed the fact that these garments are meant to be worn in whatever manner you like. His personal style is deeply rooted in precision fit, mixing sporty with casual styles and  mixing heavier fabrics like wool blazer with washed chinos. It was refreshing to meet someone with such influence in menswear who had such practical philosophies about what style is really about.

What I really enjoyed and took from my time with  Mr. Caronna was that knowing what proportions work for your body type is key. Massimo and I are around the same height, so it was cool to see him rocking a cropped blazer can still effortlessly looking professional and stylish. He stressed the fact that the Cucinelli brand really aims to produce clothing that can be worn seven days a week, in any style that suits the wearer. Massimo really reaffirmed some of my own ideas about menswear, and the fact that it doesn’t have to be all about flash and glam, but, it’s often about creating a “uniform” that is essential to your personal style.
