Founder & Creative Director of Men's Style Pro, Sabir has…
Before this starts to feel like a Johnston & Murphy stan feature, if you’re a longtime follower or reader, you already know that Men’s Style Pro has had a longstanding relationship with and appreciation for the brand. J&M has an incredible legacy and heritage, having outfitted U.S. presidents dating back to Millard Fillmore and Abraham Lincoln. We’re talking about 175 years of footwear history, from helping reshape working conditions within the industry to creating shoes that have found their way onto the feet of icons like Arnold Palmer, Ziggy Marley, and Barack Obama.
While legacy and tradition remain at the heart of Johnston & Murphy, I’ve personally noticed a significant evolution in the brand’s design language over the past three years. There’s a sharper, more contemporary approach to its footwear that doesn’t abandon the craftsmanship and refinement the brand is known for. And you can see that evolution across several styles. Below are three pairs that I either own, have tried on, or simply admire for their design: the Baldwin Lugged Sole Penny, Silas Jogger, and Aston Boot.
Baldwin Lugged Sole Penny (Calf Hair)

Baldwin Loafer – $238
This is truly one of the most approachable takes on a calf hair men’s loafer that I’ve seen. One thing you quickly realize with this style of footwear is that there needs to be a certain level of balance between the calf hair detailing and the leather construction. Too much of either can throw off the overall aesthetic. The Baldwin loafer gets that balance just right.

Ashton Zip Boot

Ashton Zip Boot – $229
When it comes to a Chelsea-style boot, there are a few design details that make one stand out from the rest. A slightly stacked, angular heel is key, along with a sleek silhouette that isn’t overly slender and a slightly higher shaft. These elements ensure the boot complements everything from tailored suit trousers to your favorite pair of jeans, bringing a level of polish with just the right amount of rock & roll attitude. That’s the Ashton boot.
Silas Jogger
Silas Jogger – $169
Crepe sole, a mix of leather and suede, and seriously comfortable! The Silas Jogger is the kind of sneaker you should actually be wearing when running errands. It strikes that perfect balance between casual style and everyday comfort without sacrificing a bit of refinement. No more notes—except, you can actually work out in them, but, I wouldn’t (because you don’t ant to destroy them).
