Monochromatic Blue Herringbone Flannel Suiting

Monochromatic styling can be quite easy to pull off if you stick to darker/neutral colors. You may have mastered the all-black-every look that HOV was preaching it in “Run This Town” and you’ve ventured into tan, greys or greens – now it’s time to step in your blue period.

This post features a custom Indigo Flannel Herringbone suit from Indochino styled three ways, all with an emphasis of remaining in the indigo family.

Work Ready

With pairing any like colors, it’s almost impossible to match them perfectly without being cut from the same piece of fabric. Often coming off as extremely severe, monochromatic blue style should be left to navy or indigo (no cotton candy, cobalt or sky blue onsie kits). Working within the same color family is always the goal, even if the color variation is slight.

There’s a few details that make monochromatic indigo blue suiting work without giving of a cub scout uniform vibe.

  • Like this look,  the texture of the herringbone fabric adds dimension and depth
  • Add textured accessories (see cable knit tie & blue plaid texture pocket square)
  • Think about the buttons. Rich brown horn buttons are a warm detail that shouldn’t be overlook
  • A cognac colored brown shoe will warm of this look and make it work appropriate

Adding A Little White

Just a bit of white can alleviate your apprehension with rocking your all indigo look. Instead of just going straight for the white sneaker options, a blue & white plaid shirt complemented with a blue & white pocket square will brighten up this look and make it slightly more relaxed.

Mind Your Metals

I’ve always been a big proponent of pairing metals with your look based on how they complement the color & texture of your main fabric. Gold can be seen a flashy choice, however; when paired with indigo blue the richness is extremely complementary (i.e, watch & aviators sunglasses).

The Risk-Taker

With style it’s fun to take a risk. Recently, I picked up this technical cashmere shirt from Kit & Ace and the rose gold collar pin and V-shape graphic makes for stylish details that aren’t for faint of heart. I’m not suggesting that you rock this look to the office, but, this look might be a great option for any type of party you may be attending during the holiday season or New Years Eve.
