There’s no better way to beat this winter chill (besides moving to the Caribbean) than rocking a sturdy wool topcoat. In a sea of charcoal & navy top & peacoats, this winter adding a bit of green to your outerwear will help you get through such a grey time of year. This post features a custom cashmere & wool forest green, double-breasted coat that I designed via Tailor 4 Less.
Custom Wool & Cashmere Double Breasted Coat – Tailor 4 Less | Light Wash Denim Jacket – Gap | Striped Nautical Sweater & Denim Shirt – H&M | White Denim Jeans – Uniqlo | George Boots – Cobbler Union | Rose Gold Tank Watch – Hugo Boss
Green topcoats evoke images of WWII era soldiers taking cover in the trenches. Sticking with the military motif, when I design this coat it was top of mind to add details like — epaulets on the shoulders and belted cuffs on the sleeves. With such a structured design, this coat and be paired with a suit or worn casually with just about anything in your wardrobe from jeans to joggers. As someone who believes in highly functional pieces, this coat was made with patch pockets that are easily accessible.
Style Tips
- Color: when opting for a green wool coat, stick to earth tones. Leave the neon colors to your sportswear (or your rave-gear…glowsticks options)
- Warmth: a double-breasted coat is always warmer than a single breast one due to the addition fabric across the abdominal area
- Layering: one of my favorite layering pieces is a denim jacket. It’s thin enough to fit under your topcoat and once the coat comes off, you can you rock the jean jacket. Remember to keep your layers thin and tailored.
- Length: mid-thigh is perfect for just about anyone. It’ll be long enough to wear over a suit jacket and short enough that it doesn’t look a Joe Namath era sweeper coat.
Style Trick: double-breasted coats can be button back on themselves. When it’s not extremely cold or you want to show and under layer, this little trick will open up your style game.
