One word of advice that I’ve continued to give when it comes to getting a custom suit made is to always opt for a three piece (if you can afford it). Some off-the-rack brands offer three piece suits, so be sure to grab that vest when you see it available. You’ll get tons of use out of the waist coat (that’s the traditional name for a suit vest), especially when you pair it with the matching trousers.
Waist Coat & Trouser Tips
- Add Lapels: give your waist coat that blazer feel by adding peak lapel. That way, when you wear it solo it’s pulling its weight as your outerwear piece
- # of Buttons: this is based on personal preference. Since I wanted this waist coat to have an outerwear feel, it seemed appropriate to opt for 7 buttons as opposed to five
- Roll Your Shirt Sleeves: loosen up a bit and hike up your shirt sleeves. The waist coat & trouser combo is as refine as your full suit option, however; when you’re showing that much sleeve, feel free to be a bit casual
