For those of you that are not aware, PROJECT NYC is a biannual menswear tradeshow. This year it took place at PIER 92 in NYC and they offered complimentary transportation with Uber. Typically, most of the patrons of the PROJECT are buyers, editors, hot PR chicks, tastemakers, the rumors of rappers coming through (A$AP Rocky..”was in the building?”) and of course bloggers. Tommy Fazio, the new president of PROJECT really set out to show the “American Heritage” side of menswear for the upcoming season.
I am a huge fan of getting in on day one before things get too ridiculous and it’s definitely an optimal time to catch brand representative while they’re still bright-eyed. The main trends that stood out were bold prints on everything and some amazing accessories. Brands like Zanerobe injected their California beach-style, with really eye-popping patterns from their shoes to their shirts. Whereas accessories brands like HEX and First&Company added patterns with streamlined constructed bags in wool and vintage leathers respectively. Todd Snyder premiered his collaboration with the classic sports brand, Champion, and I can say that I was thoroughly impressed.
Overall, PROJECT NYC was solid. There were some stand out brands and some pieces that really kicked ass. Going from brand to brand, some of the aesthetic were pretty comparable, but, some brand like Number-lab really took it up a notch.
PROJECT Las Vegas will be taking place February 19th – 21st at Mandalay Bay.
Below are some pictures of some of my favorite accessory pieces from PROJECT NYC.
