Menswear’s favorite season is quickly approaching. Cooler morning, full suits, no jackets with a hint of warmth throughout the day. It’s Fall! We’re still a few weeks away from the autumnal equinox, but, it’s the best time to talk about transitional footwear, especially sneakers.
Recently, I partnered with Allen Edmonds via Instagram to showcase two ways to style their Oliver Stretch Lace sneakers. True to form, these sneakers are made for guys that love shoes. From a transitional perspective, their deep cup insole makes for an upper that sits a little higher (more support and coverage). And, if you opt for one of the leather options, the upper are perforated for breatheability. They’re truly a shoe, masquerading as a low profile sneakers.
Below are a few tips to on how to style these sneakers for early to mid-fall.
Casually Suited

Don’t let anyone tell you that wearing white after Labor Day is a faux pas. Do what makes you feel good! When it comes to low-top white sneakers, they’re essentially a blank canvas. The Oliver stretch-lace design, in particular, offers an ultra-clean look, ditching the traditional “bow” for a sleek, minimalist vibe.
- Their silhouette is perfect for pairing with casual suiting — think cotton, track suits
- Don’t be afraid to rock these to the office. With today’s hybrid work culture, this is the type of sneaker that was made for the corporate environment
- With a clean, yet significant outsole, these sneakers can pair well with fuller pants and jeans.
- Monochromatic looks like this one let’s these sneaker shine and is a modern way styling these kicks
- All color pairings are fair play – so, have fun.
Varsity Approach

One of the most underrated sneakers in your wardrobe is a black upper with a contrasting black outsole. With the right sleek profile, these sneakers can be worn with a formal black suit. Do with that as you’d like, but, these sneakers can do it all.
- Match it up. Pairing this look with a black & white varsity jacket is an A+ style move.
- Pairing them with white denim jeans or heavy weight cotton chinos, can dress these sneakers up in the most ideal way.
- Texture shirts and outerwear complement the suble perforated details
- Pair them with an all-black-everything monochromatic look, allows the outsole to stand out
