One of the most common questions that I get from people is,  “is it okay to wear stripes on stripes and is it okay to mix patterns?” To make the answer short and simple, “Yes, stripes on stripes are cool as well as mixing patterns.” There are some general rules to follow when pairing up multiple striped items in your wardrobe and they are as follows;

  • The size of the stripes should vary
  • A trick of the trade would be to incorporate a subtle stripe that only stands out when being view up close (check out the stripes in the suit).
  • Adding some different fabric (wool tie) textures will break up the stripes and some depth to the look.

Personally, I like to break up looks with a pattern shift. As you can see I added a purple and blue pindot handkerchief for a color pop and to break up the monotony pf the suit.

PS: (Don’t feel the need to go all out with the silk pocket square, a plain white pocket square can do an outfit of this nature some clean and classic justice.)

Be bold go with a thick striped sock for the last “pow” of attitude. Socks are the one place where you can experiment a bit more and stray away from the typical solid color sock. A general rule of thumb for your leathers is always keep them consistent. As you can see from the watch band to the shoes the leathers are usually in the same color family which lead to the polished look of the overall outfit.
