The Bellevue Hotel has always been a part of my Philly story. Growing up in this city, it was impossible to miss—standing tall on South Broad between Walnut and Locust, a place where history and elegance meet. Whether it was walking past its grand entrance, attending an event, or just admiring its timeless architecture, it’s always felt like a symbol of Philadelphia’s rich past and vibrant present.
A few years ago, the historic Bellevue shut its doors for a major renovation, leaving a noticeable void on South Broad. Fast-forward to November 2024, and the wait was finally over—the iconic Gilded Age hotel reopened to much fanfare, reclaiming its place as a symbol of timeless luxury in Philly. From the rich marble finishes and plush lobby seating to the original clock above the check-in desk, every detail transports you to an era of opulence, now seamlessly blended with modern elegance.

About a month ago, I had the chance to tour the newly renovated Bellevue, and it did not disappoint. We explored the upgraded suites, took in the lush beauty of the 12th Conservatory (seriously, you have to check it out), and got a first look at the new restaurant, Pergola. Walking through it all, I knew right away—my girlfriend and I needed a staycation here.
We were lucky enough to book the “Dark & Stormy” junior suite with the Grand Romance Package—and let me tell you, it was an experience. Just a heads-up, this package is available through March 31, 2025, and includes:
- $100 Food & Beverage Credit to Pergola
- Complimentary Valet Parking
- Bottle of bubbly and a welcome amenity (typically a delicious treat)
- Late check out, so you can soak up more time at the hotel

In all honesty, it felt amazing to be just a mile from home while indulging in this beautifully designed suite. The tonal grey interiors set the perfect, moody vibe—sexy and sophisticated, only getting better as day turned to dusk. And let’s talk about that plush grey velvet sofa, tucked away in the coziest nook—ideal for relaxing or, in our case, dancing next to it (see Instagram Reel below).
There’s something about being a tourist in your own city that just hits differently.
Because I’m a sucker for design, I knew I had picked the perfect suite the moment I stepped into the dark marble bathroom with brass fixtures. It’s that perfect mix—Gilded Age elegance, a splash of Art Deco, and a modern digital twist—all coming together in the Dark & Stormy junior suite. Every detail felt intentional, from the rich textures to the moody lighting.
If you appreciate great design, this suite is a must-see.

After a night of taking it easy, exploring the hotel and bouncing around Center City – we enjoy room a bit more with champagne, cookies and more dancing.
BREAKFAST AT PERGOLA

The next morning, we headed up to the 19th floor to experience Pergola, the Bellevue’s beautifully airy new restaurant. The moment you walk in, the sweeping views of Philadelphia grab your attention—but it’s the almost Parisian feel of the space that truly draws you in. The vibe is both welcoming and tranquil, making it the perfect spot to ease into the day.
With a mix of buffet options and à la carte dishes, there’s something for everyone. Since it’s still a new restaurant, I’m expecting the menu to evolve—and personally, I’d love to see a steak and eggs option added. Maybe add a morning DJ spinning sunrise house or a jazz mix.

We ended up having a surprisingly productive morning and made our way next door to The Sporting Club—a huge perk for hotel guests since you get full access. We kept it light, hitting the elevated track for a few laps before winding down with a fresh green juice. It was the perfect balance of movement and relaxation.
All in all, I highly recommend booking a stay at The Bellevue, especially with Valentine’s Day right around the corner or if you just need a change of scenery. It’s one of those rare hotels where history is deeply woven into the design, story, and culture of the brand—offering a stay that feels both luxurious and meaningful.
