Time sure does fly when you’re producing iconic sportswear year in and year out. It was 80 years ago when Rene Lacoste introduced his pique cotton polo shirt to the tennis world. Since then the polo shirt has become piece in the wardrobes of men and women alike.
To help celebrate this great feat in sportswear, Lacoste reached out to me to style the original L.12.12 polo shirt. When tasked with this challenged, the one question that came to mind was, “how would I wear this shirt if I was 80 years old?” Even though I have just over 50 years until I hit the big 8-0, I thought it would be cool to imagine myself as a wise, old and somewhat stylish cat.
Something I’ve admired about how old men dress is that they could give a rat’s ass about what people thought about them or their style. If you happen to take a walk outside right now, you will probably see a cool old dude wearing a polo shirt, a random sport jacket, dress pants and sneakers. It was a no-brainer for me that the “geezer” style would influence the way I styled my L.12.12 Polo shirt.
