(Sorry guys, no boobs over here) Double-breasted blazers or “DBs” as they are known by style aficionados, have made a rapid resurgence into menswear in the past 4 years. Once an item of clothing donned by Dukes, Lords, and Shires (don’t forget about the 1920′s mobsters) it is now hitting runways and streets worldwide and being made famous by those stylish ass Italian dudes. Personally, DBs have always given off a slight air of formality when I’ve seen them in stores, and when worn by some people even a bit of stuffiness that is not attractive. The length of most DBs hit around mid-thigh in the more traditional fit, however I will be presenting the cropped style via Onassis Clothing (located in 71 Greene Street, NY, NY).

Recently, I had the chance to get a full run-down of all of the spring wear at Onassis Clothing’s Soho location. More often than not, you will see me in a blazer or some kind of suited option and DBs are becoming one of my favorite pieces to throw on. The DB featured in this post caught my eye immediately, however; I found some fault in the fact that this blazer wasn’t vented. Venting refers to the slit in the back of your blazer, sport coat or jacket, that is there to give you a better range of motion and room to sit down, without sitting on your jacket. While speaking with Pablo Escotto (Director of Retail Operation at Onassis Clothing) about the design choice by creative director, Andreu David, the emphasis was to really modernize the DB by cropping the length, no venting and going with a washed unlined cotton fabric.

Not to sound like a complete homer because I’ve featured a fair amount of Onassis pieces (plus, I’ve been working with and featuring them for a year now!!), this cropped double-breasted blazer is by far one of their best crafted pieces to-date. The cropped fit really works well in terms of being able to mix this blazer with casual looks and dressy looks, and it really not that short.

Here are some of the features that I really like about this blazer:

  • As with all Onassis blazers, all of the buttons on the sleeve cuffs are functional.
  • The tailored fit in the torso is spot on.
  • This blazer is constructed with relaxed shoulders that contour well the natural shape of your shoulder.
  • Honestly, the fact that this blazer is cropped makes it easy to reach in your pant pockets, which is always a plus.

Style Tips:

  • When pairing with trousers, the fit that will best complement this blazer would either be straight or slim fit.
  • Pair this blazer with a v-neck t-shirt for a truly dressed down look.
  • Spread collar shirts are a great option to pair with a DB blazer. Spread collars shape your face well and fill in the opening of the blazer too.
  • If you are feeling extremely ballsy, you can pair this cropped DB blazer with a pair of chino shorts.
  • This DB blazer is perfect for spring and summer looks.
  • Roll up the sleeves on this blazer and keep on moving about your day.
  • If you don’t have navy trousers, pair this look with dark wash jeans or chino (as an alternative to the second look).
